Psalm 8:3-4, 6a

…what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? (Psalm 8:4)

One of the gifts that the Buddhist tradition has given to us is the gift of mindfulness. In short, mindfulness is complete attention to the present. Mindful meditation practices help us to experience what is going on in and around us at the moment. You may not be one to sit in the lotus position and listen to your breathing, but mindfulness can be practiced in other ways. For instance, when eating your next meal, slow down. Appreciate the smell, taste, and texture of what you are eating. Consider the source of the food. Pay attention to those with whom you are eating. Give thanks to God for the gift of daily bread. By engaging in mindfulness, you may find yourself less apt to take things for granted and as a result less likely to waste what is at hand.

Psalm 8:3-4, 6a NRSV
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you  have established;
4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands
