Psalm 24

The earth is the LORD's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; 2 for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. (Psalm 24:1-2)

In my opinion, one of the major drivers of our wastefulness is our desire for convenience. Take the plastic water bottle, for instance. We’re willing to shell out a couple of bucks for something that comes out of our faucets for mere pennies. Not only are we spending money we don’t need to spend, but we’re adding to an environmental crisis. Each year 17 million barrels of oil are used in producing single-use bottles (enough to power a million cars for a year). It takes about 4 liters of water to make a plastic water bottle. Each year 2,500,000 tons of carbon dioxide are emitted in the manufacturing of the plastic bottles. I won’t even mention the plastic water bottles that are littering creation. It’s not just water bottles. It’s anything and everything packaged for our convenience. Our need for speed, if you will, is creating far too much waste. Maybe it’s time that we slow down and seek to be inconvenienced for the sake of God’s good creation?

 Psalm 24
 1 The earth is the LORD's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it;
 2 for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers.
 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place?
 4 Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully.
 5 They will receive blessing from the LORD, and vindication from the God of their salvation.
 6 Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah
 7 Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.
 8 Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle.
 9 Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.
 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.
